OSHA 10 Requirements in New York City: Local Law 196 & SST Card

New York City has some of the strictest safety training requirements in the country, governed by Local Law 196.

The SST Card

In NYC, an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 card alone is often not enough. Construction workers on sites requiring a Site Safety Plan must have a Site Safety Training (SST) Worker Card.

To get the 40-hour SST card, you typically need: - An OSHA 30-Hour Construction course. - 10 additional hours of specialized training (like Fall Prevention and Drug/Alcohol Awareness).

Note for OSHA 10: If you have an OSHA 10 card, you will need 30 additional hours of SST-specific training to qualify for the full SST card. For this reason, many NYC workers opt directly for the OSHA 30 course.
